“Now we know the most important resource
is human motivation- hope, caring, our feelings
about nature and our fellow human beings.”
– Gus Speth, dean of the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies
Broadly, "restoration" means "to bring back to a former position or condition".
In practice, restoration shares common threads but also has unique differences across the disciplines of ecology, biology, and personal health. Considering the facets of restoration within one field can contribute to the other related disciplines.
Below is a concept development matrix which I designed to help understand restoration more deeply and comprehensively. In it, three different types of restoration (ecology, biology, and personal) are overlapped with three qualities of restoration (goals, focus, and areas of scientific research).
INCREDIBLE BLOG. You have so much great information, links and graphics that really help pull your entire topic together. I thoroughly enjoyed reading all of this, and loved your conducted study. I think you did a fantastic job, and really don't have any suggestions for improvement. If you haven't seen it already, you should check out the Korean documentary about the locals working together to reforest the war torn landscape. (I forget the name, it's and older movie but fits perfectly with restoration and social benefits you have described).
ReplyDeleteI really like the tabs, actually, they really pulled me in even before I started reading! This is intro is really enthusiastic and informative.
ReplyDeleteSo I just realized I can only comment on this page. I love this blog, you have a lot of information on a lot of different aspects of restoration. I like that you included the slight variations between restoration and conservation and the efforts of each. The ONLY thing I have for some changes is that you have a lot of text for each tab and maybe spreading it out would be easier to follow?
ReplyDeleteI share my fellow reviewers enthusiasm. The one thing I would say, however, is that it can be distracting when you font change so much in a page. Not referring to this page, but a few of the other tabs have paragraphs switching font styles and it makes it seem almost cluttered. Besides that way to go Kasey.
ReplyDeleteLove the blog. I think the best part is where you give us information on how to help. It was informative well done and thorough. Keep up the good work
